So this adventurous family set the bar and I decided that we would try it. The Texas T's were going to try it also. I think that this family must live in the Dallas area. That area has been warmer than Houston. They have had some rain and the heat hasn't lasted as long but they have been hotter. So I think that their car got a tad warmer than our. I didn't have a thermometer so I can't say for certain.
We set the cookies on the dash and set the timer. The other blogging family said theirs took five hours. So that was our plan. Every hour we checked and took a picture. Notice the fingers held up by various kiddos.
After the bell rang after the fifth hour we were a tad disappointed . The outer shell was hard but the inside just a little cooked. It would have taken several more hours of the same heat but we just didn't have it.
As far as I am concerned this was a very successful home school science experiment. The kids walk away with the right to poke fun of me when I complain.
Mom, "Oh man it is hotter than the surface of the sun today."
Kids,"Oh mom stop complaining, it isn't even as hot as the oven."
They got me there . . .
Still worth it. We had the best time checking on them and then eating them at the end of the day. One thing that I do think worked well was the smell in the car. It smelled very very yummy for a few hours after our "baking" was completed.
Looks like a very fun experiment with delicious results, even if the cookies were not quite baked to perfection. At least it gave you something fun to do in the heat! :) Hope you survive the rest of August, it sounds brutal there!
