Congratulations Sir Bear

The Knights of Columbus have special meaning to both sides of our families.

My Papa was Knight and J's Papa was also a 4th degree Knight.  Bear has pursued this deeper calling and has now become a 4th degree Knight.

He had his dad started the KOC journey years back. Then renewed their commitments.

On January 25, 2014 Bear and J became 2nd and 3rd degree Knights.

It is an honor to be a 4th degree Knight!

We are very excited for him and extremely proud that this young man continues to live out his faith in all that he does!

This time Bear is living in another state and pursuing his commitments and passions all on his own.  We are so very happy for him!
Congratulations Sir Knight!

Bunch Of Winners

So it was time for the annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw competition.  I find this so funny because my kids do not play basketball.  They enjoy trying at this event each year.  As luck would have it not many people showed up so they each won in their own age groups.  This is a surprise and yet they were all super excited.

Way to go Princess.

Jumba you did it!

Awesome job Bagel.

Way to go guys.

K of C Free Throw

We left Mass and headed to another parish for the KOC free throw contest.

We got to watch a friend with her free throws.  She did really well.

In the end our Princess was beat out.  I am proud of her for trying.

1st Round KOC Basketball

Everyone knows about the Knights of Columbus free-throw contest.  Considering my kids do not play basketball we don't often join in the contest. J and I had some running around to do and while we were out Sugar decided that she would take her siblings and enter them. They all did OK, making a few baskets which is amazing considering they don't even play.  Princess ended up winning in her age group probably because she was the only one entered and her age group.  We are very proud of you princess and I am sure you will do well next week .

KOC 2nd and 3rd Degree

J and Bear went through the induction ceremonies for 2nd and 3rd degrees.  The family was not invited as it is a member's only event.  J has always wanted to pursue time with the Knights.  He told his grandfather, Papa, years ago that he would.  I think J was very proud that Bear, now an adult, was wanting to be a knight and proceed to the 3rd level of introduction with him.  This was something that they did together.  I am sure they will continue their service work with the knights while enjoying time as father and son.

What are the degrees all about?  I wasn't sure and the guys are sworn to secrecy.  I did some digging and found this on the internet:

The Primary Principles of the Knights of Columbus:
Charity is the foremost principle of the Knights of Columbus and, as such, it is the  primary  focus of the 1st degree of initiation into the brotherhood. There are three degrees of initiation, each corresponding to a separate virtue: charity (1st degree), unity (2nd degree), and fraternity (3rd degree). The final (optional) degree, or 4th degree, focusses on the  virtue of patriotism.

I am sure that J's grandfather would be very proud of both these guys today!
