We take the right to vote very seriously in this house. We try to make it a big deal like all other important things in life. I am always surprised that so many people dismiss this opportunity to have your voice heard. My hubby says that he votes because he feels that he doesn't have the right to complain about outcomes if he doesn't get involved.
We have a great honor in this country. We get to participate. J told me that a co-worker mocked him when he said he was leaving the office in time to go vote. The individual approached him as he got up to leave and asked where he was really going. "You don't think your vote makes a difference do you?" J was sad at the apathy. So many people will complain about what the government is "doing to them" but our system is set up to let us have a say, yet we decide not to.
Bear was to be embarrassed at the polls. It was not by me taking pictures, I didn't get any while he was voting because I was in the booth myself. When Bear went to get his code to enter the voting machine the supervisor called everyone's attention to the front. Welcomes were made to this young man that was voting for the first time. "Yeah this is a new voter and thank you for taking the time to come out and vote!" Behind Bear was Goobers. Thee was voting for supervisor asked her if she was voting for the first time and she responded that it was just her brothers first vote.
Yep it filled me with a little pride. I do have good kids.
Bear was upset that no stickers were offered after he voted. We took the two to dinner to celebrate and then he a Goobers ran to church to pick up Sugar and Pickle. He took this selfie shot for me (he claims) after a voter from another district shared her sticker with him.
Nice picture Bear - he sent it to me because I kept trying to take one of him. |
I hope that you all exercised your vote as well. To those of you with just younger children, please take the time to teach your children about our right to vote. Teach them how precious it is. If you have children of voting age make it an event. Enjoy that Tuesday as a family. Chances are that there is someone in your ancestry that sacrificed all they had in the dream that their future generations would be enjoying this right. Honor them and vote.
