Theology of the Body Week (Please Share)

Don't worry, even if you missed the talks you can still listen.  I have embedded a lot of links to his various talks throughout this post.  Come grow in your faith with us and help spread the good news.  Michael Gormley is giving his semi annual series of Theology of the Body talks.
We call him Gomer, and he has been a part of our lives for about ten years now.  He has gone from being our local youth minister to be accomplished speaker.  I can't recommend any speaker more strongly that this guy.  Don't worry, you don't have to fly to Houston to hear him (dang it is just too hot here and I would not recommend that at all).  You also don't have to fork over thousands of dollars or even hundreds of dollar, or even any dollars to hear him.  Unlike most speakers he makes many of his talks available to the public through free podcasts.  So you can still hear each of these talks or even one of his other talks, all for FREE.

These specific talks can be found on the St. Anthony of Padua the Woodlands, Texas page here, just look to the right side all the way down and you can find the talks there.  I promise you will feel like you went on a mini retreat.  Maybe listen to one a day for five days.  They are each over an hour and are a lot of information to take in.  (So pace yourselves to get the most out of them.)

This is the first class of our Theology of the Body Week!
Like many first classes, this will be an introductory presentation on the Theology of the Body as a whole and on the life and thought of St John Paul II. We will talk about the nihilism and materialism that the Pope fought, and the profound impact TOB has had on the Catholic Church as a whole.

We start where the Pope starts, with the words of Jesus "But in the beginning it was not so..." (Matthew 19)

We gazed "in the beginning" and see what human relationships were supposed to be like. Now we see what has become of relationships through the Fall, sin and (fancy word) concupiscence.

This is what we call "Historical Man", the human person that we all know because it's the person that we all are: fallen, but not depraved; sinful, but not cut off.

Poor Mike had an accident one of the nights.  He didn't stop moving around while talking though.

When God redeemed humanity from sin, He took a body, he brought upon himself the fullness of our human nature. God has a body, the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

There is no greater ratification of the dignity of the body than the Son of God becoming the Son of Mary.

In 1930, not a single Christian Church or community approved of contraception in any form. By the 1960s, almost every Church and community approved it. Discover why the Catholic Church's stance, controversial and contested, remains the most beautiful vision of human love in the divine plan.

Marriage is more than a romantic commitment. Sex is more than physical pleasure.

I know that I have devoted a lot of pictures and space to this small event at my church.  Why you might be asking?  Michael Gormley is very gifted in his speaking talents.  I always learn so much from hearing him.  He is now a international Catholic speaker, hired to give talks at Steubenville conferences and parish missions all over the US and Canada.  His passion for our Lord comes across in his talks.  He is humble and funny.  The talks are educational and entertaining.

Michael has been sharing his talks for a long time now and has quit a collection.  Join me in listening to them by downloading the SOUNDCLOUD app on any apple or android device or just create an account on your computer here.  The apps are free to download.  It might be cooler to use iTunes but I have listening to his talks this way for years.   Once you get the app or to the website, sign in and then follow AMDGomer.

Remember it isn't AMDG or Gomer, you must put the two together to be "AMDGomer".  Once you do you will have access to over 55 talks.  They are all good.  I really recommend "We are all Gomer Now."  It isn't what you would expect, but fabulous.

Mike had this to say about his new apple podcasts:
"On to more important news, my podcast is now searchable on iTunes. It's the only "Explicit" tag you'll see in the Religion category, right Joel Olsteen?"
Click here or the picture to find Gomer on Apple.

To find out more about Michael Gormley you can visit his website: Lay Evangelist.  We are all called to spread the word.  Gomer is taking that seriously and trying to help us to do that as well.  On his site you can find book reviews and recommendations and many of his talks, his blog posts are also a wealth of information.
