Pooker Is Moving On

Pooker had this to say,
"One more week of night shifts at my free standing ER job. I am thrilled to say that I accepted a position with Texas Children’s Hospital come the first week of June. I made it onto the Kangaroo crew and honestly couldn’t be more excited for this new adventure. Cleveland was a learning experience for sure. I am so thankful for the staff that works there and that I got to know this past year. There are some wonderful hearts there that I know will keep taking good care of others. I appreciate the opportunity that I was given to learn both in the lab and with patients. Everyone knew I was in school and was wanting to pick up any bit of information/skill I could so they included me in most of the thought process and I will carry all those lessons with me. ðŸ’™
I’m looking forward to DAYS! And being on a more regular schedule with JavaJava and the family. Long term night shift people are a different set of crazy heroes and I commend you and question your sanity at the same time. ðŸ˜˜
My heart is with pediatrics and I really feel this step is where every other spot has been leading. I think it will only encourage my desire to pursue pedis as an RN, but we’ll see."

Pooker is Making Progress

Pooker had this to say on Facebook,
"Waiting on my last class to turn blue, everything is in and my hours are logged. Term two is complete with three weeks to spare. Just three more terms to go! I learned a lot this term but also grew in confidence and compassion. Taking care of people is such a beautiful mess. The next three terms are 15-17 hours vs. the 19, so should be a little easier. Let me know if you want WGU info. "

I am beyond proud of this young woman.  She is such a beautiful example to all of us to pursue our goals and to never give up.  Altering your plans is ok, sometimes that is what HE asks of us.  Giving up completely is not His plan. He wants us to flexible not lazy.  Pooker is rocking it, for sure!

"Clinical"s Begin

Pooker was not able to travel with the group to St. Louis because she was starting clinicals for nursing school.  I am just so proud of this young woman.  She is working very hard on her studies.

Pooker's Facebook:
"8/11 of tx43 at orientation for our hospital for the next two years. We’re a good looking group who’s ready to learn! #wgunursing"

Pooker Has An Introduction

Pooker Introduced her friends to her new boyfriend on facebook - so I guess it is official:

"Y’all meet JavaJava. This man has come into my life and hasn’t stopped impressing me since our first date. He’s gone out of his way to work around my busy schedule of working nights and having labs all month, and It doesn’t even phase him!
He’s caring, sarcastic, sweet, hilarious, supportive, intelligent and so devoted to our faith, he’s pretty handsome too I guess. ðŸ˜‰ I just am so overjoyed and thankful to have met him. Say a prayer for us and our new relationship. A, you’re the best. Thanks for being mine. "

So Pooker had a very busy week.  These classes were taking lot out of her considering she works overnight shifts at the free standing ER.
💙

JavaJava sent her a packet of goodies to help her stay focused and motivated.
Goobers and JavaJava both were there with food and encouragement when she needed it most.

This girl is very cared for by her sister and her boyfriend.  I think she is one blessed young woman.

Pooker also shared some pictures of the preparations for clinicals:
"Two weekends of lab in the past month for us. We’ve been practicing and prepping before they release us to Methodist for clinicals. I have an amazing group of hard working classmates that I’m stuck with for two years! "
She looks so cute wearing all her nurses gear.

Welcome to the crowd JavaJava.  We are enjoying getting to know you.  We will pray for the relationship like Pooker requested. We continue to be very proud of Pooker and are also very happy for her.

So very Proud of Pooker!

I am so very very proud of this girl!  She has a goal of going to nursing school.  She has pursued it and found her path. She knew that she needed to impress and has worked hard to do so.  I share her facebook post because I am beyond proud of her!

"All blue!
Finished my first term with WGU yesterday before work.
17 credits in 5 months while working over 40 hours a week with both jobs, and a career change to boot! This was a challenge, but honestly it has been hands down the best semester of my life.
The tools to succeed and material to learn are present, but it’s the support and encouragement that were present from both my personal mentor and every course mentor that really allow you to reach a potential you may not trust you have. I can’t speak highly enough of this school/program.
WGU is one of the only schools that has an online pre nursing program. (Most online programs require you to have your RN first) because of this, there is a preliminary term for those who aren’t RN’s yet. So even though I tested and got into WGU, we now go through a second admission process, including an interview with the board, all background checks and finishing all your needed classes ahead of schedule. Thus the pressure to finish has been intense as we got closer to decision making time. My interview went well and all seems to be in place for me to continue onward with the full program. We find out in a few weeks!
Now we celebrate! My brian seriously doesn’t know what to do. I need some whiskey and two steppin. Feels so good to feel smart again. Thanks family and friends for praying, helping, supporting and dealing with me this term.  ðŸ’™
As always let me know if you want info!"

Then a week later she shared her letter with the family.  I blotted out anything that might be too private to share.  I just have to share the note though.  This young woman loves learning.  She loves caring for others.  I love that she found a program that utilizes her strengths and that is amazing.  She didn't give up when the traditional routes were not a good fit.  I love that about this young woman.  She will succeed in life because she puts her heart into all that she does.  Right now we celebrate with her for her current good news.

New Position For Pooker

Pooker is very excited to get back to patient care and out of marketing. It just wasn't not her cup of tea.

She says it best on Facebook:
"Annnnnd the marketing hat is officially hung up. It has been a crazy, busy and stressful 9 months of marketing, guys. I am so thankful for the time I had to learn more of the business side of the world through. I use to think 9-5ers had it so easy compared to my “heroic” 24 hours. Y’all that shit ain’t easy! I have a whole new level of respect for marketing/sales reps and teams.

I did learn a lot about myself and my abilities to grow, adapt and push myself. I met so many special people with different companies that had so much to share about marketing and true patient care. There’s some really good people and companies out there. If you ever have questions about senior care/ Home Health/ private duty/ hospice, let me know. I will gladly get you in touch with good people.

If you care, I have taken a new role as a night time Emt/lab tech at a free standing ER. I do highly encourage you to check us out if you need emergency care. We usually have zero wait time. ðŸ˜‰ The fit is prefect right now and I’m so happy.

Always hard to make a change even if you want the change to happen. Glad to move on but going to miss some good people for sure."

Taking On Nursing School!

Now ready for clinicals.

Pooker:
"Yesterday I passed my skills testing for clinicals. I have never been so nervous about making a bed before.  My cohort and I did fine and we get to move on to the next step!
Sugar and Princess came to my rescue and brought my id and were moral support. Love my cheerleaders so, so much! Feels good to breathe again, three more classes and my first term will be complete!
Also, we got to wear whatever scrubs we wanted to lab and skills day. I was excited to put on the Caribbean blues again. Miss my Hermann days!"

We are so proud of this girl!

Nursing School Here She Comes

I must share that J and I are so very proud of this young woman.  She has worked incredibly hard for this opportunity.  We know she will make the most of it.  She says it best herself.
Pooker on May 29th:

College — Nursing

"More news to share! I found out yesterday that I got into nursing school! This has been a desire for what feels like forever! It wouldn't leave my heart and is what I always came back to when trying to plan out what I thought God's desires were for my life. It's been a long path to this point, but I wouldn't trade it."
Then she posted this a few days later.
"Everything from WGU, every email, phone call, letter and text has been professional, welcoming and supportive and it's just the absolute best. You feel like a million bucks every time you sign on. I can't say enough good things. If you've been thinking about going back to school, let me know if you want info. Also, my sisters are amazing. This was there response to me putting their names down as "support contacts". Thanks, ladies!
Thanks to my friends who have been supportive and excited for me as well; and to those who made time, as I felt the constraints start to tighten as we closed in on this week. This is a big deal for me. I know I'm not the first to get into nursing. If you're annoyed with my excitement you can move along. I worked so hard to get here. This past week has just been so surreal. I forget that it's here and happening and that I'm actually a nursing student. Just keep doing your thing; even when you fall, get up and keep moving forward. I wouldn't change my path at all. The journey is me. Learn to use "missed successes" as connecting points with others. The struggles really do make us better.
Pray for me, pray for my patients, classmates, and staff I interact with on this journey. I haven't been this excited in a long time but I also have a lot to learn and a long way to go!"

Support her we do!  We all know how much she has worked to get here and we all know she is going to give it her all.  Good luck Pooker.  We know you can do this!

Pooker has a Real Job

After working several part time jobs Pooker got her first full time job recently.  We are so excited for her and very proud of her.  She knows that she will end up as a nurse and so she has pursued a hospital job for a little while now.  We hear that they are actually hard to get .  She had several interviews and back ground checks.  I know that they are lucky to have her.

She will be in school for nursing as well as working.  She will be pushing herself for sure but she is so happy doing it.  We see a very happy young woman and loving the parking spot from the employee garage.  Even better we love having her around on the weekends.  Congrats Pooker!

So much my has been happening. I needed comfort. I decided to make one of my favorite meals from my youth.  My mom was not the most flavorf...
