Ice In Houston - God must love me!

This never happens.  We had several days in a row of cold-cold weather.  It was cold-cold for us anyway.  I realize that much of the country had below zero temperatures at this time but for us we hardly ever get below freezing and have it stay that way for a more than one night at a time.  We actually had about 3 days of this cold weather.  I loved it.  When I ran an errand on the last morning I found that a sprinkler in the gold course must have tried to spray over night.  What was left behind was something so beautiful that I have not seen in years, ice on the trees.  I love the way it looks when everything is covered in ice.  I know that it is hard on the trees and the power lines and such but it can be so beautiful.  Here is was only on the lower edge of the trees.  I had to pull over and take some shots with my phone.  I am glad I did because within an hour the temperatures were above freezing and the beautiful glitter that only ice can produce was all melted.

So pretty!  I am sorry for those that are stuck in very cold climates that are suffering right now.  I am stuck is a horrible hot hellish climate and this has been an answer to prayers for me.  Everyone I know is blaming me for the cold weather and I will claim it.  God is listening to me right now.  Leave your prayer requests for me and I will add them in.  (I know God always listens but I am feeling loved again - first the leaves changing color in the Fall season and now a mini ice storm. All this and heaven - man I am blessed.)

Where are they now?

Every picture has Twin Beautiful on the left with Twin Adorable on the right.
Notice the head shaking and the tonged out. They are little buggers.

When asked to climb over so we could get them down Adorable would scoot as far back as she could and shake her head no while Beautiful would pat the space next to her while motioning us come up and join her. They scare me. I am outnumbered and they are smart.

Bear Continues Discernment

The Galveston-Houston Archdiocese had a discernment retreat weekend and Bear was a part of it.  He is pictured here with another young man from St. Anthony of Padua parish also praying for his possible priestly vocation.  Behind these two are the seminarians that have been at our parish, one last year and the one this year. I really have no idea where this will end up but J and I are so proud of this young man.  Please join us in praying for him and his vocation.

Goals for 2014 posted on 1-4-14

OK the new year is here.  It is time to renew and set goals so that we are closer a better version of who we are today.  Wait, is that the real goal, no the real goal is to grow closer to Christ and that process probably includes becoming a better version of who we are today. All that to say I am trying to focus on a few things for the next year and I want to keep myself on task.  Maybe posting the ideas here with monthly updates will allow me a little accountability.  Not sure if that will be true of not but it is worth a shot.

1) During Christmas 2012 I wrote about how much I loved my tree topper.  It is a Blessed Mother with baby Jesus in her arms. In my opinion it is the perfect topper.  I was suppose to replace it this year but instead we put a Santa topper on it.  We have looked to purchase the same one from eBay but they are going for more than $200 each time.  I am not sure what I can do to reinvent this but I want to be using a Holy Mary Topper by Christmas of 2014.

2) I hate our current Christmas stockings.  I have stocking dreams in the future.  I love the designs that come with the felt stockings but I don't want felt.  I had a friend wash her felt stockings and loose all the work she had done in their creations.  I have so many to create and I have spent some time in coming up with the way I want to do them.  My only problem is that I have so many to work on.  This is an all year on-going project.  I want to create something special for each child and that can not be done in December.  I would also like to create a fabulous design before we added spouses and children.  Honestly this is a project that I will enjoy doing.  It just takes a concentrated effort to actually work on it.

3) My passions include my family and my faith.  This entire get healthy trend is annoying at times.  I have had friends that loose their faith and obsess over weight and body images.  I do not find this a healthy way to live or at all Christ like.  I always hear the gluttony argument, implying that if you are overweight then you are gluttonous. I also hate the way the healthy food addicts go to extremes in everything.  Honestly it is all this hating that keeps me from diving into this world.  I say all that to share my hesitations.  I want to be a little more fit.  My goal is not to loose hundreds of pounds.  My goal is not to run a marathon.  My goal is not to give up any food group or any kind of processed foods.  My goal for me is so much more simple.  I would like to fill up on less food.  I would like to get moving more.  I would like a little more flexibility and stamina.  I will address this each month maybe my obsession will develop but for now I am looking for more balance and a little more exercise.

4) New house,  I want a new house.  I am so tired of this house that is a bad layout for our huge family.  I admit that I have been the hang up in the past.  I have not wanted to build or move here in Houston because I do not want to be trapped here.  I am at the point that I must accept that we are here and to make the most of it.  Maybe I won't hate it as much if I liked my home and it was more functional.  We are not 100% sure if we want to move into an already built home, build in a subdivision or to buy land and create our own.  We hope to have fun in figuring it all out!

5) I want to be less afraid and more adventurous.  J and I are not exactly sure how to make that happen but we are on it.  Maybe just an RV would allow us to try more vacations without a huge expense each time. We just don't want to look back on this time in our lives and wish we had tried more things.  Now is the time to get out there.

These are what my focus will be on for the next year.  As always I will work on my prayer life, my financial stability, organization, school for the kids etc. Something I always work on, new year or not.  I don't count those.  Hopefully these four areas with monthly updates will allow me to stay focused on these 5 areas.

Sibling Time New Years Day

More Changes to Sts. Simona and Jude

Another surprise.  At Mass on New Years Eve Bear sent a picture of the change.  The Apostles have been added with Christ in the chapel are at church.  It looks like the art work is in line with previous work in the church.  We are sticking to the time the church was built in the styles, at least that is how it appears to me.  I would prefer some more traditional art but I doubt it would blend as well into the structure.  I love all these changes, I really do.  It is like a surprise almost each week.

Happy New Year Celebration T Family Style

We had to do things differently this year.  Pooker had to work so the plan was that we would meet at 11 P.M. Mass so we could all go together and begin the New Year with Our Lord .  In the end one of the little ones acted sick in the afternoon so the kids headed off to Mass with Dad and I staying home with Jumba and the twins.  By midnight the bug had passed and we were all feeling better. Dad and I spent that time preparing the feast that we often have on New Years.  Everyone tells me their favorite There is no main course just lots of fun treats.  It takes forever to prepare but J and I had fun getting it ready this year.  It felt like a gift we gave to the kids when they arrived home from Mass.  (J and I did enjoy going together the next morning alone as a couple.  Again it wasn't what we planned but a delightful surprise.) It still makes my mouth water just looking at the pictures.

My precious Beautiful was getting tired even after a long nap but as the big kids came home she perked right up.
Adorable could not wait to eat that yummy food.
Thank you God for allowing us to be able to organize all of this, afford the treats and spend time with each other.

I love that our toast always ends as a prayer.  Most people would not enjoy ending one year and starting the next the way we do.

We have all that we need and want right here.  Maybe someday J and I will celebrate at parties with friends but to be honest this is what makes us happy.  We have ended 2013 in the perfect way with each other.  May 2014 be another year filled with the love of each other and a full house.

So much my has been happening. I needed comfort. I decided to make one of my favorite meals from my youth.  My mom was not the most flavorf...
